Leap and the Net Will Appear

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my revamped blog. I started this thing a couple years ago when I moved to North Carolina for grad school. Then grad school actually happened and, needless to say, anything fun or personal fell by the wayside.

Two and a half years later, I am graduated as of this past Friday! I am so incredibly grateful for all the fantastic people I have met, all the lifelong friends I’ve made, and all the life-changing experiences I’ve had along the way. I wouldn’t have made it without the support and generosity of a host of folks. I would love to thank each of you by name but that would take all day. I am proud to call North Carolina my home now and can’t wait to actually have time to play in it now that I am no longer a student.

But before I do that, I will be going on a little adventure. For the next two months I will be volunteering and exploring in Nepal. The organization I will be working with is Eva Nepal, a non-profit that operates a rural oral health care project and a higher education fellowship program. I will be the fellowship program’s English instructor and will also work with the program’s other instructors to develop and deliver the rest of the program’s curriculum, which focuses on building entrepreneurial skills. The program is based in Pokhara, Nepal’s second-largest city. I will be hanging in Pokhara a good chunk of the time, but will also (hopefully) do some trekking and traveling to other parts of the country. And at the tail end of the trip two dear friends will be joining me for a couple weeks.

That’s the quick and dirty. I’m looking forward to sharing more about this trip in future posts, but for now I still have a lot of prep to do before my flight leaves tomorrow morning. I am incredibly excited, but also slightly terrified. As with any big decision or adventure, there are a lot of unknowns that won’t be resolved until I arrive. The Buddhist saying “Leap and the net will appear” has run through my head countless times since I purchased my ticket two months ago. Here’s to leaping!

I will leave you with this photo of Kaskikot, a small village two hours from Pokhara where I will be spending some time. Makes it really clear why I can’t wait to hop on that plane tomorrow, don’t you think?

Lots of love to all of you!
